The numbers speak. According to the impact study carried out by Ernst & Young, the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France generated 1,8 billion euros in total spending, for a net contribution of 871 million euros to the French economy linked to international tourists. No less than 425.000 international visitors (72% Europeans) stayed an average of 10 days in France during the competition. They spent €170 per day, compared to €80 for French supporters. Fans from abroad booked a total of 4,2 million nights in France, representing 219 million euros in revenue for the accommodation sector. Nearly half (39%) of tourism spending benefited areas other than those of the cities and metropolises hosting matches. Another impact of the event: a boom in practice, with a 12% increase in players licensed to the French Rugby Federation between February 2023 and February 2024. The report also estimates that 5.200 jobs were created or maintained thanks to the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Finally, it reveals that 90% of the suppliers and service providers of the GIP France 2023 were French entities.
