Ryanair reports sharp profit decline as fares set to fall

Events:  The Farnborough Airshow opens in southern England, where Todd Citron, Boeing chief technology officer, delivers a keynote address on next-generation tech. Portugal’s government presents its natural resources strategic plan. Japanese defence minister Minoru Kihara begins a visit to the UK and Sweden. The UN Tourism regional conference on Brand Africa opens in Livingstone, Zambia.

Economic indicators: The UK Office for National Statistics presents household finances and savings figures, infrastructure data and overseas travel and tourism numbers for the first quarter. Computershare publishes its UK dividend monitor report for the second quarter of the year. Germany issues May retail sales data, while Spain gauges consumer confidence for June.

Corporate updates: GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, NXP Semiconductors, Ryanair and SAP present quarterly earnings. Puig joins Spain’s blue-chip equities index, replacing Melia Hotels. Johannesburg-based Anglo American Platinum publishes half-year earnings.
