“Space of risk”: Rahul Gandhi warns of stock market dangers

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday voiced his concern about the recent sharp downturn in the Indian stock markets, calling on the party to devise strategies to protect young investors, salaried employees, and common citizens who have invested their money.

In a video conversation with Pawan Khera, chairman of Congress’ media and publicity department, Gandhi emphasised the risky nature of the stock market and urged party leaders to find creative ways to caution retail investors and protect their savings.

“If you want me involved in it, tell me how,” Gandhi told Khera, showing his willingness to participate in a communication campaign to safeguard retail investors.

Gandhi shared a clip of the conversation on Instagram, captioned, “Who is in the syndicate that guards the corrupt?”

Friday saw a significant erosion of investor wealth, with Rs 6.80 lakh crore wiped out from equity markets due to a sharp drop in IndusInd Bank shares and persistent foreign fund outflows. The BSE Sensex fell by 662.87 points, closing at 79,402.29, while the NSE Nifty declined by 218.60 points to settle at 24,180.80, marking the fourth consecutive weekly drop.
