U.S. stock indexes were coming off their session highs in the final hour of trading on Tuesday, but still recovering some of the losses from the previous session when concerns of a weakening U.S. economy sparked a rout in global financial markets.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was rising 550 points, or 1.4%, to 39,262 as of 3:15 p.m. Eastern time, according to FactSet data.
The S&P 500 was up 1.8%, at around 5,283.
The Nasdaq Composite was advancing 1.9%, to 16,515.
All 11 sectors of the large-cap benchmark S&P 500 were trading in the green on Tuesday afternoon. The index’s real-estate sector was the best performer, up 2.9%, while the financials sector was rising 2.1%, according to FactSet data.
